Status
Draft charter for a proposed Working Group, in refinement until approx. 2026-11-10 (W3C Team estimate, public-new-work). On 2026-10-13 the last change to the charter text is still the commit of 2026-09-30 (a definition of the term and a simplified scope), and the Strategy issue #576 is open with 4 comments, the last of 2026-10-01.
Relevance
The draft charter proposes a Working Group "to develop specifications that facilitate web pages and applications to be leveraged by LLMs and AI agents", scoped to site capabilities and context for agents, agent identity and delegation, and permissions and policies for agent actions. Its one normative deliverable is WebMCP, adopted from the Web Machine Learning Community Group; it lists the Web Payment Security Interest Group (IG), IETF webbotauth and IETF aipref for coordination.
On 2026-08-13 a representative of Apple wrote on PR #829 "Expect a formal objection if this is merged.", about the earlier plan to place WebMCP in the Web Machine Learning Working Group (WG). Charter-drafts PR #888 (editorial fixes, opened by the author of this map on 2026-10-02) was merged on 2026-10-13 at 11:06 UTC by one of its reviewers, after approvals by three reviewers: a participant on 2026-10-08 with the review text "LGTM" (review 5463458958) and two on 2026-10-13 (GitHub, read on 2026-10-14).
